With just three seniors Mount St. Joseph wrestling coach Harry Barnabee will field a young squad this winter, but there is more than enough talent to make another run at a title in the MIAA A Conference, where the Gaels won the dual meet crown last year.
Leading the way will be senior Shawn Orem, who won a private school state title and the MIAA Tournament, in addition to placing 7th at the Beast of the East. Neil Schuster (160), another MIAA champ, who placed second in the states and 7th at the National Preps is also back.
The other returning senior is Will Ballinger (285), who went 12-3 last year, while junior Keagan Rill (220) is also back after placing second int he MIAA Tournament. Other top returners are sophomores Justin Henry (170) and Marcus Suri, and junior Paul Warner (1950. Henry placed 3rd in the MIAA Tournament, 4th in the states and 6th at the National Preps, while Suri placed fifth in the MIAA Tournament and Warner went 13-4.
Providing and strength and depth to the lineup are three junior transfers. David Schultz (182), who was a County and Region champion at Linganore before placing second in the 3A/4A state tournament. Austin Stith (195) was a Montgomery County champion at Gaithersburg and Ethan Stern (145) placed 2nd in Baltimore County for Franklin last winter.
Rounding out the lineup is a strong group of incoming freshman: Chris Barnabae (106), Garrett Miller (113), Connor Strong (113), Matt Jun (120), Nate Porter (126), Chris Roybal (132), Tony Zancan (160) and Parker Warner (170).
