Cavs top Glenelg Country on the road
Archbishop Spalding went on the road Friday night for an MIAA A Conference basketball title with Glenelg Country, in Ellicott City, and came away with a 78-64 conference win.
Glenelg Country hung around most of the way, but the Dragons could not match Spalding fire-power, especially the duo of Cam Whitmore and Jordan Pennick, who combined for 51 points.
Pennick was on fire in the first quarter, as he hit four 3-pointers in the opening frame as Spalding built a 27-18 lead. The senior guard would go on to finish with 25 points.
Whitmore did the bulk of his damage in the second half, when he scored 18 of his team-high 26 points to help the Cavaliers close out the victory, improving to 10-2 overall and 2-0 in the A Conference.
Sophomore guard Jaylin Sykes added 15 points for Spalding coach Josh Pratt.
Senior Calvin Green did his best to keep Glenelg Country (0-4 overall, 0-4 MIAA A) competitive, netting a game-high 29 points for the Dragons. Sophomore Dominic Carr also reached double-figures with 11 points.
