Calvert Hall and Archbishop Curley have a long and storied soccer rivalry and, in the 2016, that rivalry was better than ever.
Among the highlights was their annual Reif Alumni Cup showdown which was played before more than 5,000 fans at Calvert Hall and, of course, their first ever meeting in the MIAA A Conference championship game, a classic for the ages won, 3-2, by the Cardinals. They finished No. 1 and No. 2, respectively, in the final 2016 VSN Boys Soccer Top 20 and it is only fitting that the Cardinals and Friars have swept Varsity Sports Network’s top annual awards for the 2016 season.
Curley junior Nick Richardson has been named VSN’s Boys Soccer Defensive Player of the Year and Calvert Hall’s Ben Alexander has been named our Boys Soccer Offensive Player of the Year. In addition, Calvert Hall’s Rich Zinkand has been named VSN’s Boys Soccer Coach of the Year.
