Patriots hammer McDonogh, 13-1

John Carroll scored in just two innings of its MIAA A Conference baseball opener at McDonogh, Monday, but that was more than enough for the Patriots as they packed 13 runs into those two frames and routed host McDonogh, 13-1, in five innings in Owings Mills.

After a scoreless first, John Carroll (2-1 overall) scored six times in the top of the second. McDonogh got one back in the home half the second, but would not score again. The Patriots added seven runs in the fifth to get the run-rule in effect.

Ryan Archibald was one of five John Carroll players with two hits, including a two-run homer in the fifth to cap the Patriots’ scoring, and he finished with four RBI.

Grant Astle had a triple among his two hits, scoring two and driving in two. Chris Roberts added a pinch hit triple with a run scored and an RBI.

Also getting two hits for the Pats were Nick Collier, Tyler Bittersdorf, Johnny Galant and Stelio Stakias.

Collier made the start and struck out seven Eagles in three innings for work to get the win. Archibald pitched the final two innings. Both pitchers allowed two hits.

Logan Lach had two hits for McDonogh and Adam Rosenstein had an RBI.
