Long time Calvert Hall football and Turkey Bowl historian Tom Batemen shares his Turkey Bowl memories
by Gary Adornato
Few people know more about the history of the Turkey Bowl than Tom Bateman, a Calvert Hall alumnus, as well as a long-time coach and scout, and he is our special guest in Episode 2 of our Turkey Bowl Tales podcast.
Although he bleeds “cardinal and gold,” Bateman has seen more Loyola games than Calvert Hall contests in the last 30 years, as he has devoted his time to being a super scout of the Dons. His recall of past Turkey Bowl games, the players and the back stories is unrivaled and he shares it all with our audience.
Especially riveting was his recollection of the historic 50th anniversary game in 1969 when Phil Marsiglia booted a 42-yard field goal, as time expired, to give Calvert Hall a stunning 17-14 victory at Memorial Stadium.
Enjoy the passion and memories as we continue this special podcast series leading up to the 100th anniversary of the Turkey Bowl.
