In a low scoring MIAA A Conference lacrosse battle, No. 5 St. Paul’s controlled possession with strong face-off work from Brendan Tscherne and defeated visiting St. Mary’s, 7-3, Tuesday afternoon in Brooklandville.
Tscherne won 9-of-14 draws and the Crusaders out-shot St. Mary’s 37-18, but the Saints stayed close using a zone defense and good goalie play from Aleric Fyock, 12 saves. St. Paul’s led 4-1 at the half and 5-2 at the end of the third period.
Joe Pollard scored twice to lead the Crusaders, while Antonio Mastromanolis, Mitch Gordon, Logan Posner, Matt Mayer and Troy Barthelme all scored once each. Barthelme and Gordon added one assist each, while Keeganr Peal and Jack Brocato had two each.
Jake Carraway scored all three goals for St. Mary’s
St. Paul’s is now 11-5 overall and 3-2 in the MIAA, while SM is 1-10 and 0-4 in league. The Crusaders travel to Gilman on Saturday, and the Saints host top-ranked McDonogh on Friday.
