Two weeks after leaving the field in an ambulance, McDonogh School starting quarterback DeJuan Ellis returned, Friday, and turned in a huge performance in leading the fifth-ranked Eagles to a 28-8 rout of No. 9 Calvert Hall College, in MIAA A Conference football action at Russo Stadium in Towson.
Ellis scored on a 6-yard run to cap McDonogh’s opening drive of the night and rushed for two additional scores to cap a sensational return.
Mylique McGriff rushed for the Eagles’ second touchdown and Ellis followed up with a 2-point conversion run to give McDonogh a 14-0. Ellis’ second score came on an 8-yard run and McDonogh (7-3 overall, 3-2 MIAA A) led 21-0 after just one quarter of play.
Ellis, who’s verbally committed to Virginia Tech, then stretched the lead to 28-0 with a 64-yard third quarter run.
McDonogh travels to Gilman School next Saturday in the rivals’ 101st meeting. Calvert Hall (5-5, 1-4 MIAA A) travels to Montgomery County for a non-league match with Avalon School next Friday before closing its season against Loyola Blakefield on Thanksgiving morning at M&T Bank Stadium.
