No. 1 McDonogh and No. 2 Calvert Hall played a rain-shortened MIAA A Conference soccer match, Friday at McDonogh, with the host Eagles winning 2-0 to take over sole possession of first place in the conference.
Tunde Akinlosotu and Jackson Morrill each scored for McDonogh, with Stephen Nichols and Cale Thorne providing assists.
The teams were in the 67th minute when the rains came, accompanied by thunder and lightning. After a 30 minute delay it was determined the game could not be concluded and under National Federal rules, once the first half of a game is complete, it becomes official.
McDonogh and Calvert Hall played to a 0-0 draw in their first meeting and thus McDonogh owns the tie-breaker over the Cardinals, should they need it at some point. The Eagles (12-0-1 overall) are now 8-0-1 in the conference and they have 25 points. Calvert Hall (8-3-1, 7-2-1) has 22 points and firm hold on second place, at the moment.
