Twenty-seven golfers have qualified for Wednesday’s final round at Elkridge Country Club
The first round of the 2018 MIAA Individual Stroke Play Golf Championships took place on Monday at Eagles Nest Country Club and three golfers share the lead, with seven others within four strokes of the lead heading into Wednesday’s final round at Elkridge Country Club.
Mac Webster and Jarius Gaines of Gilman, as well as Annapolis Area Christian School’s Alex Colonna, each shot a one under par 71 to lead a group of 27 golfers who survive the first round cut.
Joseph Hudak of St. Paul’s carded a 72 to finish one shot off the pace of the leaders, while Trent Geritz of Loyola and Lou Baker of St. Paul’s got in at 73, just two strokes behind the leaders. Three additional golfers shot a 74 and one shot a 75 to remain in strong contention for the individual crown.
In the annual team competition, St. Paul’s shot 302 to take the first day lead, while Loyola is second at 304 and Calvert Hall third at 308. To qualify for the second round competition, school’s must advance at least four golfers to the final round and this year the only qualifiers were St. Paul’s, Loyola and Calvert Hall.
