Annapolis Area Christian School at Severn School

When: Friday, 4:30 p.m.

What you need to know: The first official contest for the 2016 area campaign takes place in Anne Arundel County as defending MIAA C champion AACS plays B Conference Severn. The Admirals won the last meeting, 40-13, in 2013.

 

Friendship Collegiate Academy (D.C.) vs. St. Vincent Pallotti

When: Friday, 7 p.m.

Where: Fairland Regional Park, Laurel

What you need to know: Pallotti, which could be a MIAA B Conference title contender this fall, takes on District charter program. Junior wide receiver Cameron Sullivan-Brown, who’s committed to Penn State University, is a big reason the Panthers are ready for a breakout.

 

St. Frances Academy vs. Avalon School

When: Friday, 7 p.m.

Where: Martin Luther King Recreation Park, Silver Spring

What you need to know: Former Gilman School assistant Henry Russell debuts as new Panthers coach. With a new coaching staff featuring several former Gilman assistants, a host of transfers and several varsity holdovers, the latest reboot of St. Frances football could be the most intriguing story in the area this season.

 

Mount Carmel at Maryland School for the Deaf

When: Friday, 7:30 p.m.

What you need to know: Mount Carmel makes its 2016 debut in Frederick. The Cougars hope to improve on last year’s 6-4 showing and make a run at the MIAA C title. 

 

Bishop O’Connell (Va.) at Archbishop Curley 

When: Saturday, 12:30 p.m.

What you need to know: Curley, hoping to regain the MIAA B crown, plays its first home game on its new turf field. O’Connell, which left the Washington Catholic Athletic Conference after last season, plays its first match as an independent.

When: Saturday, 1 p.m.

What you need to know: McDonogh, widely regarded as the preseason favorite in the MIAA A Conference, takes on one of the best from the WCAC. Junior quarterback DeJuan Ellis, a transfer from Bishop O’Connell who’s committed to Virginia Tech, makes his debut for the Owings Mills squad.

 

St. Mary’s Ryken at Calvert Hall College

When: Saturday, 2:30 p.m.

What you need to know: It’s another MIAA A/WCAC matchup, this one in Towson as the Cardinals hope to improve on last year’s 5-6 showing. Calvert Hall has back a veteran roster led by Rutgers commit Tyshon Fogg.
