Looking for a shocking upset, Mount St. Joseph held a 2-1 lead over the nation’s No. 1 lacrosse team after one quarter of play, Tuesday in Irvington, but Boys’ Latin came on with a vengeance and rolled to a 15-6 MIAA A Conference win over the host Gaels, to remain unbeaten in 2013.
Shack Stanwick led the Laker effort with two goals and five assists, and BL had 12 different players score.
The BL defense. playing without four-year starter Mac Pons, held St. Joe (8-9, 1-6) scoreless in the second quarter and the Laker offense came alive, scoring seven, to go into half with an 8-2 lead. Stanwick had a hand in six of the eight first half goals, with two scores and four assists.
Colin Heacock chipped in with two goals and two assists, and the BL faceoff trio of Hunter Moreland (9-of-12), Bryan Licthenauer (5-of-9) and Jake Merrill (2-of-4) controlled 16 of the game’s 25 draws.
Boys’ Latin (17-0, 7-0) will play Loyola at home on Friday, as the Lakers have their Homecoming. BL’s 1988 lacrosse team, which is celebrating 25th anniversary of their ’88 MSA A Conference Championship victory over Loyola.
