A long-time college coach, he was a three-time All-American at Illinois


St. Paul’s School has announced the hiring of Peter Friedl as the schools new varsity wrestling head coach.

Friedl most recently coached on the staff at the University of Pennsylvania. He has also coached at the University of Illinois (his alma mater), Appalachian State and American University, before working with the Beat the Streets program in Baltimore City.

As a collegiate wrestler Friedl was a four-year varsity letter winner (2003-2006), a four-time NCAA qualifier and a three-time All-American (2004-2006) wrestler at Illinois. He led the 2005 Illini team to win the Big Ten Conference team championship.

Friedl takes the helm of a St. Paul’s squad, which has won three MIAA or MSA team championships, 56 MIAA or MSA individual championships, 25 Maryland Independent State championships, and three National Prep championships.

“We are excited about the leadership, experience, and dedication to wrestling Coach Peter Friedl brings to our program,” said St. Paul’s athletic director Paul Bernstorf.
