Crusaders shutout in opening quarter of a loss to Caravel

St. Paul’s was outscored 22-0 in the opening quarter of its opening round matchup in the Governor’s Challenge, Thursday morning, and went on to suffer a 71-40 rout to Deleware’s Caravel Academy.

Senior point guard Anthony Smaldore did rally to hit five three-pointers and score 15 points to lead the Crusaders, along with Luke Trotta, who hit three treys and also finished with 13 points.

Caravel had four players score in double-figures led by Kevin Kestler’s game-high 16 points.

St. Paul’s will play Osbourn Park (VA) in Friday’s Bracket 2 Consolation Game. The contest will be at James M. Bennett High School with a 1:30 p.m. tip.
