St. Paul’s has been one of the surprise teams in MIAA A Conference baseball this spring and the Crusaders continued surge, Thursday, with a 3-2 win over Loyola, at Blakefield.

Spencer Horwitz, has been red hot recently was 2-for-3 with a run scored and a RBI. Horwitz, a 4-year starter, singled in the first and scored the Crusaders first run on a triple by Tony Schultz. He then had a RBI single in the third.

In his last five games, Horwitz is 13-for-17 with 3 walks, 3 home runs, a triple, and 6 doubles.

AJ Holcomb and Chris McDonald each had RBI hits for the Dons, as the scored single runs in the 4th and 7th, but they could not tie it up.

With the win, St. Paul’s is now 7-7 overall and 7-4 in the A Conference. The Crusaders are now just one game back of second-place Calvert Hall. Finishing first or second would guarantee St. Paul’s a first round bye in the playoffs.

Loyola (8-7 overall) fell to 4-6 in the league and is in 6th place, in the middle of crowded group of teams looking for one of the league’s six playoff spots.
