Saints win by 23 at Chapelgate Christian


Although there will be no basketball champion crowned in the MIAA B Conference in 2021, St. Mary’s is making a strong case that it would have been their title to take, as they remained undefeated in league play, Monday, with a 73-50 rout of Chapelgate Christian, on the road in Ellicott City.

The Saints (7-1 overall) improved to 4-0 in league play with a balanced scoring attack, which saw five players reach double-figures.

Sophomore Jaden Bryant paced the offense with 14 points and he was followed closely by 13 points each from juniors Jacob Aryee and Peyton Mason. Sophomore Connor Harris added 12 and sophomore Audric Washington scored 10.

Chapelgate, which raced out to a 22-11 lead after one quarter was led by 17 points from Jax Felder and 10 from Saihou Mbergan.

The visiting Saints shave six points off of their deficit in the second quarter and then outscored the Yellow Jackets 17-6 in the third quarter to move in front. St. Mary’s then exploded for 30 points in the final quarter to turn the game into a rout.
