St. Mary’s traveled to Laurel, Thursday afternoon, to open their 2016 boys soccer season and the Saints, with two second half goals, rallied to a 2-1 win over host St. Vincent Pallotti, in a MIAA non-league contest.
Pallotti (1-1), which plays in the MIAA C Conference, grabbed a 1-0 lead on an unassisted score by Alec Jones, in the 38th minute, and took that advantage to the half.
Luke Haschert evened the slate for the Saints, of the B Conference, early in the second half when he netted an unassisted shot in the 41st minute. Then, just three minutes later, Taylor Hawkins, with an assist from Dom Simpson push St. Mary’s in front with what proved to be the game-winning goal.
Pallotti outshot the Saints 15-10, but St. Mary’s had a 7-6 edge in corner kicks. Christopher Spindler had 8 saves in the St. Mary’s goal, while Pallotti’s Jose Pesoa stopped six shots.
