No. 7 St. Mary’s wasted little time getting after No. 5 Calvert Hall, Friday night in Annapolis, outscoring the visiting Cardinals, 4-0, in the opening quarter, and cruising to a 10-5 MIAA A Conference lacrosse victory.

Alex Woodall was a key factor for the Saints (7-3, 1-2), as he won 15-of-19 face-offs and scored a pair of goals.  His work in the “X” help St. Mary’s sustain its momentum and control possession.

Also fueling the offense for the Saints were Timmy Hardy and Jake Ellis.  Hardy also scored twice and finished with three assists for five points.  Ellis also added a pair of goals and one assist.

St. Mary’s other goals came from Jake Carraway and Cole Robertson.

Calvert Hall (10-2, 2-1), which trailed 7-2 at the start of the fourth quarter, received two goals each from JT Bugliosi and Jason Brown, while Jack Kinnear netted one.  In addition, Timmy Kelly contributed three assists.

Tim Troutner was excellent in the Saints’ goal, stopping 11 shots.  Joe McSorley recorded 12 of Calvert Hall’s 13 saves.

Calvert Hall’s loss leaves No. 1 Boys’ Latin as the lone remaining unbeaten team in MIAA A Conference action, at 2-0.  Calvert Hall is now in a four-way tie for second with Gilman, McDonogh and St. Paul’s.

The victory by St. Mary’s was its first of the season in the league and keeps them in the thick of the early race for the post-season.
