Mount St. Joseph is not the soccer program receiving all of the preseason publicity in the MIAA A Conference, but when you examine the depth of talent and experience that will hit the pitch this fall for the Gaels, you can see they have the metal to contend in the state’s toughest high school soccer conference.

Leading the way are five juniors from the Baltimore Celtic squad that won this year’s State Cup and reached the semifinals of the Regionals. This group includes All-MIAA center back Tyler Collins, center back Brett St. Martin, forward Jake Mazzei, center midfielder Ian Reger and right back Jordan Ehart.

Yet another junior will be a major factor in the MSJ lineup. Center midfielder Diego Guerrero has switched from the Baltimore Armour academy team to Baltimore Celtic so he can continue to play with the Gaels during the high school season. He is also a member of the U.S. Region 1 team.

Senior Nick DeShong, an outstanding 6-3 goalkeeper, who played in the USYSA national semifinals last month with Baltimore Celtic U17, is also back for head coach Mike St. Martin, who is entering is 20th season with the Gaels.

Seniors Kenny Crist, an outside back, and Joe Clark, a holding midfielder, are also back and will serve as team captains for the Gaels.
