Cavaliers move to 2-0 in the MIAA A Conference

The Archbishop Spalding baseball teams is off to great start in its quest to regain the top spot in MIAA A Conference baseball, after seeing its run of three straight titles end last spring. Monday, the Cavaliers followed up last Friday’s home win over Calvert Hall with a 3-1 road victory over defending champion Loyola.

The Cavaliers stuck for one run in the first and two more in the third, and rode some strong pitching to the victory. Zac Powers made the start for Spalding, pitching the first 4.2 innings to get the win. He allowed Loyola’s only run, in the third, scattering five hits and striking out three. Daniel Elliott pitched the final 2.1 innings, allowing no hits to close out the game.

Justin Pelletreau staked Spalding to a 1-0 lead in the first with an RBI single and, in third, Josh Moylan and Justin Caesar each delivered RBI doubles. Caesar was the only player on either team to have two hits.

Austin Holcomb drove in Loyola’s only run with an RBI double in the fourth, plating Jack Reinhardt, who had doubled ahead of him. Will Glock also had a double for the Dons.

Spalding is now 4-0 this season and 2-0 in the MIAA A. Loyola is 4-2 overall and 1-1 in league play.
