Host Archbishop Spalding scored less than one minute into its MIAA A Conference soccer match with No. 8 Loyola Blakefield, Monday, and the Cavs rode the early momentum to a 3-1 victory, their conference win of 2016.
The loss continued a season of ups and downs for Loyola (3-5, 3-5), which has included a win over then No. 1 Calvert Hall and now a loss to only team yet to win in league play.
Andre Tenorio headed home the first goal, just 49-seconds after the opening whistle, on a feed from Zach Roberts. Roberts doubled the Cavaliers lead, in the final minute of the half, when his brother Peter slid a pass to him after a bounding corner kick into the box. Loyola, however, got that goal back, with only 9 seconds left in the half, as Luke Briggs scored with an assist from John Peterson.
The Cavaliers (2-8, 1-6) finally put the game on ice in the 76th minute when Luke Bernlohr served a long free kick that found Corbin Martin for the finish.
