Butts kicks pair of field goals as Cavaliers pull away in second half

St. Augustine Prep (NJ), the top-ranked team in the South Jersey Sports Zone preseason’s rankings, visited Archbishop Spalding Friday night, for the football season opener for both schools and the host Cavaliers routed the Hermits, 34-13.

Corey Butts put the Cavs on the board with a 37-yard field goal in the opening quarter and Spalding went to the half with a 10-7 lead.

Junior quarterback Nicholas Gutierrez boosted Spalding’s lead to 17-7 with a 38-yard third quarter touchdown run and Butts made it a 20-7 lead with his second field goal of the evening, early in the final quarter.

The Cavs capped their opening win with two fourth quarter touchdowns.
