Playing its final tuneup before traveling to St. Frances on Monday for its MIAA A Conference/Baltimore Catholic opener, Archbishop Spalding had a big first half, Thursday, and rolled to a 79-58 victory over visiting St. Mary’s.

After outscoring the Saints (1-2) 16-9 in the first quarter, Spalding (3-1) poured in 27 second quarter points to build a 43-25 halftime advantage.

Senior Barry McCormick led the Cavaliers with 24 points and Buzz Anthony netted 15. Two other Spalding players scored in double figures, as junior Rene Alphonso netted 11 and Hank Schemmel scored 10.

Junior Joshua Wallace scored 24 for St. Mary’s to match McCormick for game-high honors and senior Aaron McGriff scored 16 for the Saints.
