While its MIAA A Conference lacrosse foes are taking time to recoup for the final stretch of regular season play, Archbishop Spalding High and Severn School was in action Thursday at the Public/Private Challenge at Severna Park.

The 10th-ranked Cavaliers defeated No. 9 Severna Park, 13-6, while No. 12 Severn was upended by 11th-ranked Broadneck, 10-9.

Jonathan Jarosz had three goals for Severn (3-9), and Henry Rentz added two goals and an assist. Zack Kinsella had two goals.

The Cavaliers (7-5), pursuing their first MIAA A playoff berth, handed Severna Park its first loss on its new turf as Ryan Schrier finished with three goals and Russell Melendez posted two goals and four assists.

The defending Class 4A state champ Falcons (8-1) accounted for the game’s first two tallies before Spalding ran off 10 unanswered scores. Cameron Bear had two goals and an assist for Severna Park.
