Justin Pelletreau drove in three runs and Nick Vermillion homered as top-ranked Archbishop Spalding High posted a 6-1 victory over Archbishop Curley in a MIAA A Conference baseball contest in Baltimore City Saturday afternoon.
Jordan Geber was dominant again for the three-time defending champ Cavaliers, throwing a complete-game four-hitter. The Mount St. Mary’s recruit struck out 10 and walked one.
The Cavaliers (19-5 overall, 13-4 MIAA A) got on top in the opening inning as Vermillion scored on an error. The senior homered in the third for a 2-0 advantage.
Later in the third, Pelletreau singled home Kris Burkowski and Evan Fochtman. Curley (13-12, 7-10 MIAA A) got its only run in the fourth on Nick Brown’s leadoff home run.
Pelletreau’s fly out scored Burkowski in the fifth before Fochtman doubled home Rottman with the Cavaliers’ final run in the seventh. Burkowski and Fochtman, who will attend Navy in the fall and play football, each finished with two hits.
Spalding, which will be the No. 2 seed in the MIAA A double-elimination tournament, hosts top-seed and second-ranked Calvert Hall College Tuesday afternoon.
