Cavaliers blank AACS and Park to open the 2018 soccer season; Gerstell edges Mount Carmel

Archbishop Spalding is off to a strong start in boys’ soccer after claiming a pair of non-league shutout victories this week, downing Annapolis Area Christian, 3-0, on Wednesday and coming back to edge Park School, 1-0, on Thursday.

In their opener, the Cavaliers received pair of goals from Henry Hardart and one from Lucca Mazzola, while Leo Depole, Alex Flores and Andrew Tenorio each had an assist.

Spalding was just as dominant in its victory over Park, out-shooting the Bruins, 24-1, despite finding the back of the net just once. Hunter Stokes netted the goal with an assist from Flores.

In goal, Daniel Ashbeck and Kyle Edwards each played a half in each game to combine for the back-to-back shutouts.

Also in non-league MIAA action on Thursday, Gerstell Academy edged Mount Carmel, 1-0. Danie Burns was the Falcons’ goal scorer and he was assisted by Caleb Frey.
