Cavaliers blank DeMatha, 8-0, for their second consecutive shutout of a WCAC school

Coming off a 7-0 win over Good Counsel in its season opener, the Archbishop Spalding baseball team spun another shutout, Thursday, blanking host DeMatha, 8-0, as the Cavaliers improved to 2-0 on the young season.

Spalding broke on top with single runs in the first and second innings and then added three in the top of the fourth. The Cavaliers then capped things off with a three-run sixth.

Noah Mrotek made the start for the Cavs, going six shutout innings, striking out nine and allowing just two hits. He also did not walk a batter. Ethan McCormick then came in and threw a perfect seventh inning to close out the game.

McCormick also had a hit and scored two runs. Nate Vermillion led the offense, going 3-for-3, scoring two runs and driving in two.
