With two outs in the bottom of the seventh inning of a tied game, Tuesday in Ellicott City, Glenelg Country’s Dylan Farnella laced a potential game-winning single to the right field.  However, Boys’ Latin right-fielder Josh Smith gunned down the potential winning run at the plate and BL would go on to win the MIAA B Conference Baseball Tournament elimination game, 7-4, in eight innings.

Smith’s strike to catcher Parker Yablon nailed Glenelg Country’s Will Seiferth, who went 3-for-4 with a double in the contest.

The Lakers then scored four runs in the top of the eighth before reliever Dom Maggio held on to get the win.  Maggio also led the BL offense with three hits.

The Lakers will get right back at it on Wednesday, with another elimination game, as they travel to Joe Cannon Stadium to face Annapolis Area Christian. The Eagles also had dramatic win in their elimination game with Friends, on Tuesday, scoring all five of their runs in the bottom of the seventh inning to stun the visiting Quakers.

The rally was capped when Kyle Blucher displayed some excellent base running, scoring from second on a fielder’s choice.  Daniel Bierc had two hits for the Eagles and drove in two runs during the winning rally.  Albert Taylor also had two hits and pitched the final two innings to earn the win.

Both teams will seek to stay alive in the double elimination tournament, while top seeds St. Mary’s and Severn will meet in the winners bracket final, Wednesday night at the University of Maryland’s Shipley Field (7:00 p.m.).  The winner of that game will earn a spot in the Sunday’s tournament finals at Ripken Stadium.  The loser will meet the BL/St. Mary’s winner for the other spot in the final.
