Admirals clamp down on Gilman for fifth straight victory

Following the lead made by Archbishop Spalding last year, into the upper crust of the MIAA A Conference, the Severn lacrosse team is making its own charge in 2022.

On Thursday, the Admirals hosted Gilman and limited the Greyhounds to just two scores in a 7-2 victory. It was the fifth straight win for Severn since it suffered an 11-3 loss to McDonogh on April 5th. Since then, the Admirals bounced back with a win over John Carroll, wins over Anne Arundel County public school powers Severna Park and Broadneck and an impressive, 6-5, victory over No. 1 Boys’ Latin on Tuesday.

Two days after their impressive gem at BL, the Admirals were at it again, as red-hot goalkeeper Will Perez’s recorded nine saves against Gilman.

Reid Gills made the defense’s work much easier by winning 12-of-13 face-offs. Paul Baldwin (2g, 1a) led and Chase Hallam (2g) led the offensive effort. Luke Hayes, Mason Ervin and Justin Queen scored one goal each.

Oscar Woloson and Michael Baddley scored for Gilman.

With four games to play, Severn (10-3 overall) is 5-1 in the A Conference and in second place, behind undefeated St. Mary’s (4-0). Severn will host Spalding (3-1) on Tuesday. After that the Admirals have Loyola, Calvert Hall and St. Mary’s, in the regular season finale on May 10.

Gilman fell to 8-7 overall and 2-3 in the conference, where they are tied for sixth place with Loyola and St. Paul’s. Only the top six teams make the post-season.
