Loss drops the Quakers out of first place in the MIAA B
After completing a season sweep of rival Concordia Prep last week and gaining a share of first place with the Saints in the MIAA B Conference, with the all important tie-breaker in its back pocket, the Friends School soccer team suffered a 1-0 league loss to Severn, Friday afternoon, dropping the Quakers back into second place with two games to play.
The visiting Admirals blanked Friends behind four saves from Ethan Andersen and Trey Huber scored the game’s only goal, with an assist from Alan Tchamourliyski.
Severn outshot Severn 7-4 and each team had three corners.
Severn (9-7-1 overall, 8-6 MIAA B) solidified its hold on fourth place in the league heading into the final week of the regular season as it attempts to land a home playoff game for the quarterfinal round of the playoffs. The third and fourth seeds host opening round games next week and Severn is two points ahead of fifth-place Annapolis Area Christian (6-6-1), which has one less result recorded, and six points back of third place Saints Peter & Paul (9-3-1).
Friends (11-4, 11-3) is now three points behind Concordia Prep (12-2), which it has met in the last two league championship games, with each team winning one title. Concordia gained the inside track to the top seed with a 3-1 win over
St. Mary’s on Friday.
Concordia hosts Saints Peter & Paul on Wednesday and Park School on Thursday to close its regular season, while Friends faces Getstell on Wednesday and welcomes Saints Peter & Paul to Roland Park on Friday. Severn will be at Annapolis Area Christian on Wednesday and Gerstell Academy on Friday.
AACS was scheduled to play Saints Peter & Paul (no score reported yet) on Friday is in a battle with Park School (6-8) and St. Mary’s (4-7-3) for the final two playoff spots.
