Three-time defending MIAA B Conference soccer champs make a move towards the playoffs; Boys’ Latin stays hot; Gerstell tops AACS
Things are heating up in the MIAA B Conference soccer playoff chase and, Wednesday, three-time defending champion Severn made some of the biggest noise with an 8-1 win over Saints Peter & Paul.
Severn (6-9 overall) scored six second half goals to turn a 2-1 halftime lead into an 8-1 rout as the Admirals seek to get back to the post-season and attempt to defend their title.
Nathan Gauthier had a hat-trick, while Devin McCarthy had a four point game with two goals and two assists. The most productive Admiral, however, was Everett Cortes, who scored once and assisted on five goals. Spencer Russell and Ethan Andersen also scored in the rout and Sam Brighton added an assist.
With the victory Severn is (5-7 MIAA B) now in a three-way tie for fourth-place with Saints Peter & Paul (4-5-3) and Gerstell Academy (5-8, 5-6).
Gerstell kept pace with a 2-1 win over Annapolis Area Christian (5-6-2), which is in third-place with 17 points. Malachi Darden had a goal and Nate Dresin had an assist. The Falcons second score was an own goal by the Eagles.
Also on Wednesday, Boys’ Latin (4-9-2, 4-7-2) continued its recent hot-streak, defeating St. Mary’s, 3-1, for its third straight win. Harold Lloyd had a goal and an assist for the Lakers, while Hunter Hegmann and Sam Grace each scored one goal. With the win, the Lakers are now just one point behind the three teams tied for fourth.
At the top of the division, Friends School (10-1-1) and Concordia Prep (9-3) have already clinched the top two seeds.
