Victory over Calvert Hall allows Loyola to finish year tied for second with Cardinals and St. Joe
Saturday’s final dual meets concluded the 2021 MIAA track & field schedule and, without a league championship meet to look forward to this year, Loyola Blakefield’s seniors went out the best way possible, defeating rival Calvert Hall College, 80-66.
The victory allowed the Dons to finish the regular season at 5-2, tied with Calvert Hall and Mount St. Joseph for second-place behind powerhouse Gilman School.
In a dual meet featuring too many close races to count, seniors powered the Dons. There were big wins by Aaron Ray in the long jump and 200, Andrew Ray in the 300 IH, John Dixon in the triple jump, Nick Fabula in the 800 and Sean Reinners in the pole vault.
Calvert Hall’s fine performances were led by two wins by Garik Pozecki in the shot and discus as he completed an undefeated season. Emmanual Hennessee also tied a league best with 6-feet in the high jump and CHC’s 4×200 meter relay team ran a league best 1:32.4.
