Sophomore wing forward Naquan Williams-Day scored 22 points and Daniel Kiely finished with 20 points as No. 13 Oakland Mills High defeated Boys’ Latin School, 66-57, to win its holiday tournament Tuesday evening in Columbia.

Trevon Hopkins added 12 points for the Scorpions (8-1 overall), who defended their tourney crown. The defending Class 2A state champs defeated MIAA A Conference program McDonogh School in last year’s finale.

Boys’ Latin (4-10), which moved up to the MIAA A this season after winning the B Conference, led 30-26 at the start of the second half on a three-pointer from Spencer Rees. The Scorpions responded with a 13-0 run to regain the lead, 48-36.

Shawn Harris’ tip-in at the buzzer put Oakland Mills up 50-39 after three quarters. The Scorpions led by as many as 15 points in the final period.

Williams-Day was named the tournament’s MVP, and Kiely was named all-tournament along with Dulaney’s Kyndie Jones and Brandon Bradsher and Jaylin Andrews from Boys’ Latin.

Bradsher led the Lakers with 18 points Tuesday and Andrews added 12. The Lakers head back to the Governor’s Challenge in Salisbury Wednesday for a match with Old Mill. Boys’ Latin played Saturday against Riverdale Baptist from Prince George’s County.
