Lewis Scharff has been named the new varsity cross country head coach at Boys’ Latin.
“Coach Scharff has been a fixture on our campus for several years as a parent, coach, and supporter of our community and athletic program,” said Boys’ Latin athletic director Michael Thomas in making the announcement.
For the past 11 years, Scharff has been involved with the Boys’ Latin lacrosse program, serving as head coach of 8th grade middle school lacrosse team and as an assistant on the Laker varsity staff.
“He is responsible for off season/in season training and conditioning while focusing on our midfield play,” said Thomas. “Coach Scharff is responsible for getting our lacrosse athletes physically and mentally prepared to handle the rigors of (MIAA) A conference lacrosse. It seems to be a perfect nexus for our fall cross country runners to be led and mentored by such a caring, compassionate, and experienced coach.”
Scharff, an avid runner, has completed many full and half marathons, as well as long distance trail races. His sons, Adam 08′ and Jimmy 11′, are BL alumni and former student athletes.
