MIAA and IAAM lax stars claim 63 of 93 roster spots on on Command and Highlight teams


The 2021 Under Armour All-America Underclass Tournaments get underway this week with 12 regions of the United States represented by four different teams, two boys and two girls in two different age categories.

The rosters have been finalized for the Baltimore regional entries and they are dominated by players from local private schools, which have captured 63 of 93 possible roster spots.

In the Command Division, for players in the 2024 and 2025 graduating class, 21 of the 23 players on the team are from schools in the MIAA A Conference with eight coming from Calvert Hall. Loyola is next with four players, while McDonogh has three, Boys’ Latin and St. Paul’s have two each and St. Mary’s and Archbishop Spalding have one each. Broadneck’s Eli Harris is the only area public school player on the team, which also include’s IMG Academy’s (FL) Grifin Strange.

The Boys Highlight roster, for players graduating in 2022 and 2023 classes, is a little more balance, but the MIAA still owns 12 of the 23 roster spots. St. Mary’s dominated this team with six players on the roster. Calvert Hall has two, while McDonogh, Mount St. Joseph, St. Paul’s and Friends School have one each. Catonsville and Severna Park each had two players make the team, while Westminster and Mount Hebron had one each. Three different players from Pennsylvania schools made this squad as did one player from DeMatha.

The IAAM took 15 spots each on the Girls Command and Highlights teams.

McDonogh and Garrison Forest each have three players on the Command, while Bryn Mawr, Roland Park Country and St. Paul’s School for Girls have two each. John Carroll, Park School, St. Mary’s and St. Paul’s have one each. Local public school player making the team include two each from Hereford and Broadneck and one from Glenelg. In addition, City College’s Charlotte Marshall gives Baltimore City a rare participant in this event. Rounding out the team is one player each from Shady Side Academy (PA), Colorado Academy (CO) and Bethesday-Chevy Chase in Montgomery County.

On the Hightlight squad, McDonogh players own three spots, while Glenelg Country, Maryvale Prep and Notre Dame Prep own two each. Archbishop Spalding, Garrison Forest, Roland Park Country, Severn, St. Mary’s and St. Paul’s School for Girls also represent the IAAM with one player each. Public Schools Glenelg and Manchester Valley each have two players on the team, while Broadneck, Franklin, North Harford and Severna Park have one each.

Tournament games being at 8:30 am on Friday at both facilities and continue Saturday and Sunday, with the championship games scheduled for Sunday afternoon as follows:

Girls Command – 1:00 p.m.
Boys Command – 2:30 p.m.
Girls Highlight – 4:00 p.m.
Boys Highlight – 5:30 p.m.

In addition to the Underclassman tournaments, the Under Armour Senior All-America Games will be played on Saturday evening at Johns Hopkins University’s Homewood Field, with the girls game beginning at 5:30, followed by the boys game.
