Victory keeps Patriots in contention for a top seed in the MIAA A
No. 6 John Carroll hosted Archbishop Spalding on Monday and the Patriots added another three points to their total in the MIAA A Conference soccer standings with a key, 1-0, victory over the Cavaliers.
John Carroll’s Josh Petty broke a scoreless deadlock with 19 minutes to play in the second half and goalkeeper Amir Smith thwarted Spalding’s best chance at leveling the match, with an outstanding save, as the Patriots held on for the victory.
John Carroll has now shutout six consecutive opponents heading into Wednesday’s home battle with No. 1 Calvert Hall. The Patriots (9-3-2 overall) are now 8-3-2 in the A Conference where they sit in third place behind the Cardinals (11-1-1) and No. 2 McDonogh (10-2).
Spalding dropped to 3-8-1 overall and 2-8-1 in the conference.
