Bruins win MIAA B Conference soccer opener, 4-1
In a rematch of a MIAA B Conference quarterfinal soccer playoff game from last fall, Park School traveled to Gerstell Academy, Thursday, rolled past the host Falcons, 4-1, in the season opener for both teams.
Park pushed out to an early 1-0 advantage with a goal from senior forward Okezie Okoro and soon followed with a second from sophomore Garrett Potts, cleaning up a loose rebound in front of the net.
The Bruins continued applying the pressure after going into halftime with a 2-0 advantage, with senior Captain Liam Bannon connecting for a nice strike to put Park up 3-0. Gerstell, never a team to give in easily, quickly answered with a goal of their own, as Jax Francisco converted a feed from Nate Dresin.
This made things again interesting, at 3-1, with just over 20 minutes remaining. The teams battled to determine who would earn the important next scoring opportunity, and it came with 12:50 remaining in the form of a nice through-ball from Bannon to Okoro. The senior-to-senior connection secured the 4-1 victory for the visiting Bruins.
Park (2-0 overall, 1-0 MIAA B) will take on St. Mary’s, next Friday at Park School, for its home opener while the Falcons (0-1, 0-1) will travel to Saints Peter & St. Paul on Wednesday.
