St. Frances hit 3-0 with 65-53 decision; Staten scores 18

Senior guard Khyrie Staten had 18 points, and Derik Queen added 13 as St. Frances Academy defeated Loyola Blakefield, 65-53, in a MIAA A Conference/Baltimore Catholic League basketball match inside Knott Hall in Towson.

The three-time BCL Tourney champ Panthers built a 15-point first quarter advantage, improving to 3-0 overall and in BCL play. University of Maryland recruit Julian Reese finished with 12 points and sophomore shooting guard Jahnathan Lamothe had 11.

Queen, a 6-foot-8 freshman, had seven points in the opening quarter as St. Frances led 26-11. Loyola (1-2, 0-2 BCL) cut the lead to 33-24 at halftime and stayed close in the second half before the Panthers pulled away. Junior forward Gavin Walsh finished with a game-high 20 points for the Dons.

Loyola travels to Mount St. Joseph Wednesday evening in MIAA A/BCL action. St. Frances, which has won its three matches by double-digits, hosts John Carroll Wednesday evening in East Baltimore.
