St. Vincent Pallotti jumped out to a four run lead on six hits in the first inning and the Panthers went on to surprise second-seeded Glenelg Country, 6-1, in the opening round of the MIAA B Conference baseball tournament, Monday.

This proved to be enough support for Pallotti starting pitcher Mick O’Brien, who scattered four hits and only one run for a complete game victory. The big blow came from Matt Day who belted a two run triple in the first inning. He also added a single and two walks for a perfect day at the plate. Alex Cordon also had two hits, while Will Bartlett had two hits for Glenelg Country.

In Monday’s other opening round game, Annapolis Area Christian outlasted Mount Carmel, 10-8. Jim Rohme had a 2-run home run, a double and 4 RBI to lead the Eagles. Nick Ashworth also homered in the victory for AACS.

The tournament is scheduled to continue on Tuesday, with Pallotti visiting top-seeded Boys’ Latin and AACS traveling to second-seeded Severn. In addition, Glenelg Country will host Mount Carmel on Tuesday in the event’s first elimination game.
