Mallory and Otoo combine for 30 points and 21 rebounds for the Panthers

St. Vincent Pallotti welcomed Annapolis Area Christian to Laurel, Tuesday evening, as both squads tipped off their MIAA A Conference schedules with a thriller won by the host Panthers, 69-66.

Pallotti, playing its season opener, rallied from a one-point deficit at the start of the second quarter to take a 34-30 lead at the half. The Panthers ramped up their defense in the third quarter as they stretched the lead to seven, before settling for the three point win.

AACS (1-1 overall) trailed by as many as 11 in the fourth quarter but failed to quit. The Eagles battled back by hitting five three-pointers in the final quarter and cut the lead to just one with 6.8 seconds to go in the game. Forced to foul, AACS sent Pallotti’s Joemel McNair to the line and he nailed both free throws putting Pallotti up by three.

AACS had one final chance. Eagle point guard Dylin Borden quickly pushed the ball up the floor and attacked the rim before dishing the ball to Mekhi Marshall in the right corner. Marshall launched a contested three, which missed the mark, allowing Pallotti to hang on for the victory.

Miles Mallory and Gilbert Otoo both had double-doubles for the Panthers, combining for 21 rebounds and each scoring 15 points. Christopher Smith added 11 points and six rebounds, while Isaiah Oshinnaiye had 11 points and four assists.

Eddie Scott paced AACS with 20 points, while Borden and 13 points. Ray Ritter scored 12 points for the Eagles and RJ Forbes netted 10.
