It was the first round of eliminations in the MIAA B Conference double-elimination baseball tournament, Tuesday, and it was St. Vincent Pallotti and Boys’ Latin coming away with victories, living to fight another day.
At Panther Park in Laurel, Pallotti ousted Severn from the post-season with a 5-4 victory. Braulio Ramon drove in two runs, while Coley O’Brien, Rob Colvin and Ryan Centorbi each had one RBI for the Panthers, who built a 5-1 lead through five.
Severn staged a late rally, scoring one in sixth and two in the seventh to pull within one, but Pallotti reliever Nino Marchetti got Severn’s Christian Marciano to line out, with a man on, to end the threat.
Centorbi was the winning pitcher after going six-plus innings. He allowed three runs and six hits.
Boys’ Latin went on the road to defeat Annapolis Area Christian, 11-8, at Joe Cannon Stadium. The Lakers will now travel to Panther Park on Wednesday afternoon as both squads attempt to survive and move on in the tournament.
Also Wednesday in the B Conference tournament, Glenelg Country will visit St. Mary’s in the winners bracket. The winner between the Saints and Dragons will advance to the tournament finals at Ripken Stadium on Sunday.
