No. 10 Boys’ Latin School traveled to Essex Tuesday night set on pulling an upset in the MIAA A Conference basketball quarterfinals, but No. 5 Mount Carmel survived the attempt thanks to the heroics of senior Terry Nolan as the Cougars prevailed, 74-71 in overtime.

Mount Carmel (24-8) advances to Thursday’s semifinals and the Cougars will host Calvert Hall, which upset No. 8 John Carroll, 84-78, in Bel Air. Mount St. Joseph and McDonogh School also won on Tuesday and they will meet in Thursday’s other semifinal.

Nolan hit a huge three-pointer in the overtime and made three-of-six free throws in the extra session to finish with a team-high 20 points. Nolan had three three-pointers in the contest.

Jordan Jones was also a force for the Cougars, scoring 19 points, with 15 coming in the second half and overtime, while grabbing 10 rebounds. In addition, Christian Evans scored 11 points, including three in overtime.

Boys’ Latin ends its season with an overall record of 19-12.
