In lacrosse it’s hard to score if you don’t have the ball and top-ranked Calvert Hall made sure No. 5 St. Mary’s had precious few opportunities when the pair met in Towson, Friday night.
The Cardinals’ Michael Autry won 17-of-19 draws and Owen Reece took two of his three attempts to help the Cardinals dominate possession and the team’s bevy of high profile scorers did the rest, leading Calvert Hall to an impressive 15-3 MIAA A Conference victory.
Cole Hebert put four shots into the net to lead the Calvert Hall goal scorers. Jacob Kelly added two goals and five assists and JT Bugliosi netted a hat-trick to go with a pair of assists. Connor Mitchell was Calvert Hall’s other multi-point producer, registering one goal and one assist.
Grant Mitchell, Sean Reilly, Timmy Kroneberger, Connor Kempske and Michael McKnelly rounded out the Cardinal scoring with one goal each, while Harrison Ewing, Zach Green and Daniel Kelly recorded one assist each.
The Saints got their goals from three different scorers, as Ian Krampf, Lachlan Hertel and Garrett Wilsen all got on the board. BJ Burlace and Taylor Bohanan each had an assist for St. Mary’s and Alberici Fyock stopped 14 shots in goal.
Calvert Hall (10-2 overall) is now off to a 4-0 start in the MIAA and the Cardinals share the conference lead with Boys’ Latin, also 4-0 after an overtime win over McDonogh on Friday.
St. Mary’s (11-3 overall) dropped its second straight and is now 2-2 in the conference.
