Defense helps Eagles make quick work of the Mustangs in a 42-7 victory
Aided by a slew of turnovers produced by its defense, No. 3 McDonogh overpowered visiting Bishop McNamara, Saturday, and the Eagles cruised to a 42-7 non-conference football win over the visiting Mustangs.
BJ Farrare hauled in a 20-yard touchdown pass from DeJuan Ellis in the opening minutes of play and Giovanni Proccacini followed with a TD run to give McDonogh a quick 14-0 lead.
The next three McDonogh scores were setup by defensive takeaways. Wayne Sharp’s interception paved the way for a short touchdown run by Jabriel Johnson. Farrare followed with another interception, and that led to a touchdown pass from Ellis to Chris Smith. Also, Jackson Bonita’s fumble recovery opened the doors to a 9-yard TD toss from Ellis to Smith, for a 35-0 halftime lead.
In the second half, yet another turnover, Darius Picket’s interception, led a 5-yard scoring run by Johnson, capping the Eagles’ scoring.
