Visiting Boys’ Latin School held a 20-0 lead for three-and-half quarters, Friday night, and had to weather a couple of late fumbles to prevail, 20-13, over host St. Mary’s in a MIAA B Conference football game.
St. Mary’s capitalized on both late turnovers to produce their only points, on short fields, but the Lakers were finally able to run out the clock.
Boys’ Latin quarterback Brenden Crouse scored two rushing touchdowns and Sam Grace was 2-for-3 on field goal attempts to account for the BL scoring.
Defensively, the Lakers (3-1, 2-0) were led by defensive end Victor Dimukeje, who recorded numerous tackles, including 1 sack and 2 for a loss. Free safety Koby Russell also had a big night with an interception, a blocked punt and 4 solo tackles. In addition, Jake Scheinder had a pair of interceptions.
Next week, the Lakers will host Dunbar on Friday afternoon. St. Mary’s (1-3, 0-1) will travel to Laurel next Friday to battle St. Vincent Pallotti in a league contest.
