The Loyola Blakefield soccer team bounced back from a strong, but losing effort against No. 1 Mount St. Joseph, from Monday, to rout visiting Archbishop Spalding, 5-1, in MIAA A Conference soccer on Wednesday at Blakefield.

The Dons opened the scoring on a beautiful strike by Jason Kolbe from 18 yards out, just 10 minutes into the game with assist, going to Marci Desormeaux. Loyola went up 2-0 on a Nick Battaglia penalty kick after Desormeaux was taking down in the box.

Spalding pulled one back, with 10 minutes left in the half on a scramble in the box off a free kick, as Peter Roberts poked home the ball from 10 yards out.

In the second half, Loyola extended it’s lead when Tommy Dendrinos scored a header back post off a corner kick by Desormeaux. Ben Gallagher added to the lead on a cheeking back heal flick to the far post on a ball played by Battaglia. Alex Reid rounded out the scoring with a great one time strike from 18 yards out that found the upper top right corner of the goal, off a well played combination pass with Desormeaux.

Chris Karpovich and Luke Arnold Combined for three saves for the Dons.
