Commander earns MVP honors; Bryant All-Tournament

No. 14 John Carroll School continued the strong play it established locally, as traveled to the Atlanta suburbs over the post-Christmas weekend to play in the Pinecrest Academy Invitational, where the Patriots captured two wins and a championship.

In Saturday’s championship game John Carroll routed host Pinecrest Academy, coached by former Calvert Hall College coach John Bauersfeld, 57-40. Friday, the Patriots took care of Prince Avenue Christian (GA), 67-28.

Tyson Commander scored 13 points to go with five rebounds and three assists in the final and was named the Tournament’s Most Valuable Player.

Jalen Bryant, who had 10 points, three rebounds and two steals in the championship game, also was named to the All-Tournament Team. Jaiden Jakubowski added 14 points and four boards, while Cesar Tchlimbo had nine rebounds and six blocks.

The Patriots, who return to MIAA A Conference action on Friday at McDonogh, improved to 9-2 on the season.
