Cavaliers post a pair of 7-run innings in routing the Patriots in five
The classic baseball showdown between No. 1 Archbishop Spalding and No. 2 John Carroll did not materialize, at least not the way many expected.

Spalding scored three in the home half of the first and then posted their first seven spot in the second to go up, 10-0. John Carroll battled back for three in the third, but he Patriots would not score again, while the Cavaliers scored seven more in the fourth.
Tyler Smith was one of four Cavaliers with two hits. He doubled, scored one run and drove in four. Designated hitter Matt Gormley had a pair of doubles and four RBI, Parker Thomas had a double, three runs scored and RBI, and Kyle Garret knocked in three and scored one.
Griffin Shirk had one of four John Carroll hits, scoring in one run and diving in another.
Spalding (5-2 overall) is now off to a 2-0 start in the A Conference, while John Carroll (4-2 overall) is 1-1 in the league.
