Cardinals move to 6-1 with a 5-2 win over Garden City

Top-ranked Calvert Hall is proving it can win in any type of game you want to play on the lacrosse field Whether it be up tempo run and gun or a slow grind it out defensive effort, the Cardinals have the weapons to prevail.

Tuesday, on the road against Garden City (NY), the Cardinals took the defensive rout in a 5-2 victory as Garden City had an edge at the face-off X and slowed the pace considerably with its possessions.

“It was an outstanding performance from our defense,” said Cardinals’ coach Bryan Kelly, who saw his squad improve to 6-1. “Our close defense was led by seniors Garrett Zungalia and George Walsh, along with juniors Jake Snyder and Parker Byrd. Our long poles and short-stick middies played very well.”

That group include Jack Connelly and Will Thompson, as well as Trey Smith, Kyle Epple and Kia Sasaki. In addition, Liam Darragh stood tall in the Calvert Hall goal, making 11 saves.

Grant Mitchell paced the offense with three goals and Jacob Kelly added one goal and two qssists. Rounding out the scoring were Daniel Kelly (1 goal) Zach Green (2 assists) and Jack Sawyer (1 assist).

The Cardinals open up league play against Gilman on Tuesday.
