Gaels defeat St. Mary’s-Ryken and St. Michaels


The Mount St. Joseph baseball team swung some hot sticks on Saturday, as the Gaels piled up 21 runs to notch a pair of victories in their annual Jack Conley Tournament, in Irvington.

The Gaels opened with an 11-1 rout of St. Mary’s-Ryken and then defeated St. Michael’s, 8-2.

In the second game, St. Michael’s took a 2-0 lead after one, but St. Joe tied the game with two in the second, before adding single runs in the fourth and fifth and pulling away with a four-run sixth.

Connor Feustle led the offense with a 2-for-3 effort that produced a double, two RBI’s and a run scored. Connor Rudel added a double and score a run an Naite Reese went 2-for-3 with a run scored.

Luke Hess and Luke Williams also produced RBI’s for the Gaels (4-2) and John Torroella made the start and tossed 5.1 innings of three hit ball to get the win.

In the early game, the Gaels stroked five doubles, one each for Feustle, Hess, Justin Looney, Michael Rosen and Rudel.

Rosen was 3-for-4 with three runs scored and one driven home. Rudel and Brad Kenjorski each had two RBI’s. Feustle, Looney, Hess, Willams and Cullen Dillow had one RBI each.

The game went just five innings and Reese went the distance on the mound, striking out five and allowing just three hits.
