The Mount Carmel baseball team returns some proven experience at the plate and three starting pitchers with the potential help the team contend in the tough MIAA B Conference.

Junior Jake Brack was an All-MIAA pick in last year when he hit .323 with 17 RBI in the clean up spot. He also went 3-2 on the mound with a pair of saves.

The team will also look to sophomores Austin Heid, Spencer Knotts and Mekhi Howard to expand on outstanding freshman seasons. Heid, an outfielder and pitcher, hit .274 with 14 RBI and Knotts, a third-baseman who played every inning in 2016, batted .342 with 14 RBI.

“The team has a lot of experience coming back, and has added two freshmen who will contribute early,” said coach Mike Naunton, now in his 25th year with the Cougars. “We will look to continue our success at the plate last season and build on our defense.”

Naunton added, “On the mound the team will need our three returning pitchers to increase their innings and keep the team in games while we heal from early season injuries.”
